About
Farhan Naushad is an independent filmmaker based in Vancouver, Canada. Born in India and raised in Dubai, he moved to Canada for university, where he studied civil engineering. While engineering became his profession, filmmaking became the space where he could explore ideas, experiences, and stories in a completely different way.
His work leans toward cinematic storytelling shaped by atmosphere, emotion, and strong ideas. He is open to every genre, but is especially drawn to stories with a strong identity, memorable moments, and something unexpected in the way they unfold. Music often becomes the starting point for an idea, helping shape the mood and imagery before the story fully takes form. Whether fictional or inspired by real experiences, his films are ultimately grounded in human emotion and connection.
Working largely independently has made Farhan involved in nearly every stage of the process. He writes, directs, shoots, edits, and colour grades his own projects, taking an idea from its earliest concept through production and into the final frame. His work ranges from narrative short films and visual pieces to spec commercials, travel films, and experimental projects.
For Farhan, filmmaking is an ongoing process of developing his own visual language, taking on increasingly ambitious ideas, and making each project better than the last.
Actor since 2016, Farhan first trained on stage in Dubai through the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) at Shez's Dramatic Adventures, completing Grades 3, 6, 7, and 8 by 2020.
He began with school theatre, performing in stage productions before moving into short films and independent work in Canada. He has acted in two short films and continues to build his craft through the films he writes, shoots, directs, and edits himself.
Farhan's performances are rooted in restraint, presence, and emotional truth. He is drawn to a wide range of characters, from quiet, internal roles to more intense, expressive performances. His work is driven by tension, conflict, and moments that feel lived-in rather than performed.
